How to Prepare Your Quilt

This video from YouTube gives a helpful demonstration of preparing a quilt for the long arm.

Calculating Binding

Figuring out how much binding a quilt needs can feel more complicated than it really is. The formula itself is simple, but it’s one of those calculations many quilters end up double-checking every time they start a new project. A quick way to estimate binding is to add together all four sides of the quilt, then include a little extra length for corners and joining the ends neatly.

The equation looks like this:

(2×width)+(2×length)+10

For example, if you are making a quilt that measures 45” x 60”,
the calculation would be: (2×45)+(2×60)+10=220

So you would need approximately 220 inches of binding to finish the quilt comfortably.
